Crystal Palace have clinched the signing of Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international signs for an undisclosed fee, which is reported to be around £3million.

“I can’t wait to get started, it feels like a very nice club, nice family club,” he told the Palace website.

“The fans obviously come out in their numbers and I spoke to James [McArthur], he couldn’t speak any more highly of it. I’m delighted to be here; it’s a fresh start that I thought I needed.”

The 28-year-old played 108 league games for the Toffees, scoring six goals, during his six years at the club.

McCarthy is Palace’s fifth summer acquisition after Stephen Henderson, Jordan Ayew, Gary Cahill and Victor Camarasa.
