Crystal Palace midfielder Max Meyer has not given up hope of making Germany’s Euro 2020 squad.

The 24-year-old captained his national team in the 2016 Olympics where the young side lost out in the final to Brazil.

But it’s been four years since he won the last of his four caps and the former Schalke star has been overlooked by manager Joachim Low.

Meyer has been getting more game time at Palace recently and he feels a strong finish to the season could give him a shot at making the summer finals.

“Right now, I have no hope for anything because nobody has talked to me,” he told the press. “I will try to give my best and then we will see at the end of the season.

“When we play all the games and we will see if we are successful with the team and me as well, maybe I have a chance. Right now I have no hope, but I don’t give up. Maybe I get a chance.”

The Oberhausen-born player has found first-team chances limited under Palace boss Roy Hodgson, who selects him on the right of midfield.

Although Meyer would prefer to play in a central role, he said he is happy to play in any position.

“It is unusual that I play on the right side but I try to help the team wherever I play and we have a lot of good players,” he said.

“I’m just happy when I play, it doesn’t matter where, and everybody knows I feel better when I play inside, in the middle, but that’s no problem for me. I just try to help the team and that’s the most important thing.

“It’s never frustrating when you play, so it doesn’t matter where. I think my strength is in the middle, my teammates know it and the gaffer as well. But when I have to play on the right side, that’s no problem and I try to give my best for the team and the club.”
