Palace suffer heavy defeat in final summer friendly

Crystal Palace were defeated 4-0 at home to Hertha Berlin in their last pre-season fixture before the new Premier League season starts.

Eagles fans thought Christian Benteke had put his team ahead on 10 minutes but his ‘goal’ was chalked out for offside.

Scott Dann then struck the post with a header and new signing Jordan Ayew hit the rebound into the side netting.

Marvin Plattenhardt’s deflected goal gave the Germans the lead before the half-time whistle.

After the break, Vedad Ibisevic, Maximillian Mittelstadt and Davie Selke added further efforts to complete the rout.

Palace: Guaita (Hennessey 45), Van Aanholt, Dann, Kelly, Ward, Meyer (Pierrick 83), Milivojevic, McArthur, Townsend (Dreher 83), Ayew (Wickham 75), Benteke.

Not used: Hennessey, Hobbs, Tavares, Riedewald.
