Kouyate warns Palace must continue to work for hard for points

Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate says the team cannot afford to take their foot off the gas.

The Eagles have had a decent start to the new season by picking up seven points from their first four matches.

Kouyate, 29, has put much of that success down to hard graft and says it’s important the team continues this.

“We started the season very good and we continue to work hard, because if you want to have your achievement, you need to win every match,” he told the Palace website.

“You have to win, and if you don’t have the chance to, then you have to keep the draw.

“Sometimes with a loss, it’s very hard to come back up. We must continue to work hard and stay humble because nothing is done. We can enjoy [the win over Aston Villa] but next week we start the work.”

Jordan Ayew is one player who has really put a shift in up top and he scored in Palace’s 2-1 win at Manchester United and 1-0 success over Villa.

“Keeping a clean sheet [against Villa] is very good,” added Kouyate. “Last week we won at Old Trafford, which is good for the team and also good for confidence too.

“I’m happy for Jordan. He works hard every game and he wants to score. Every time he scores, he is happy. But if he doesn’t score, he is not happy. This is what strikers are like and he just needs to keep going.”
