Palace start new campaign with a draw against Everton

Crystal Palace opened their Premier League season with a 0-0 draw at home to Everton.

Palace failed to capitalise on the extra-man advantage after Morgan Schneiderlin’s red card in the 76th minute. He was shown a second yellow for a foul on Luka Milivojevic.

Everton had the better of the first-half exchanges with Gylfi Sigurdsson shooting just wide and Seamus Coleman’s effort was saved by Palace keeper Vicente Guaita.

Sigurdsson’s strike was cleared off the line by Patrick van Aanholt, while Richarlison went close for the Toffees.

However, Palace should have wrapped up all three points with Jordan Ayew and Max Meyer sent through with just Jordan Pickford to beat but the England goalie produced fine stops both times.

Wantaway forward Wilfried Zaha came off the bench in the 65th minute and he helped Palace pile on the pressure but the hosts were unable to break the deadlock.
